Join your neighbors for a day of art, remembrance, and community as we honor our ancestors and celebrate the lives of those we love.
9 a.m. | First Anniversary Celebration at Ollin Cafetzin
Begin the day with our friends at Ollin Cafetzin as they celebrate one year of coffee, culture, and connection.
2–4 p.m. | Art-Making & Get Ready with Me at DAVA
1405 Florence Street, Aurora
Come spend a creative afternoon with us! DAVA’s activities are free and open to the public, with no registration required. Drop in with family and friends, enjoy some pan de muerto, and get ready for our community procession.
Our “Get Ready with Me: DIY Catrina & Catrín” stations will help you transform something you already own into a personal, creative outfit for Día de los Muertos. Bring a dress, suit, jacket, or hat that you’re comfortable decorating or altering. We’ll have ribbon, lace, fabric, flowers, and supplies to help you embellish your outfit. Glue on a detail, pin on flowers, make a flower crown, or create a hat—our team will help bring your ideas to life!
Volunteers will offer Catrina, Catrín, and skeleton face painting. Are you a makeup artist or talented face painter? Come volunteer! We have plenty of face paint and would love to welcome your creativity.
Our friends from Colorado State University’s Arapahoe County Extension will host art activities, lotería, and games. In our visual arts studio, participants ages 8 and older can learn to create miniature decorations for an altar or ofrenda using pasta fría, a traditional craft material that air-dries. These lessons will be taught in Spanish.
Come early to make the most of the afternoon! All DAVA activities end promptly at 4 p.m., when the building closes and we gather outside for the procession.
4 p.m. | Procession of Remembrance — Departing from DAVA’s Parking Lot
Join us for a shared walk of remembrance from DAVA to Blue Chair Park at Dallas and Colfax. Accompanied by musicians, ballet folklórico dancers, giant puppets, and community members, we’ll move together with music, dancing, and the memories of those we carry in our hearts.
You’re welcome to wear your Catrina or Catrín creation, come as you are, or bring a photo of a loved one to share on the community altar. We’ll also have paper available to write the name of someone you wish to honor.
Families are welcome to bring strollers or wagons for little ones. Wear comfortable shoes and bring layers for the evening. This is a community walk where generations can come together to remember, reflect, and celebrate.
4–8 p.m. | Muertos Night Market at Blue Chair Park
Continue the celebration with Aztec dance and ceremony, local artists, an artisan market, food trucks, and a community altar by Art and Color. Bring a photograph to contribute to this shared space of remembrance.
Parking & Getting Around
Look for public parking behind Martin Luther King Jr. Library, 9898 East Colfax Avenue, and permitted street parking nearby. The library is closed for regular Sunday services, and this area is a short walk from both DAVA and Blue Chair Park—a convenient place to park once and enjoy both locations.
Please follow posted parking signs, leave driveways and reserved spaces clear, and keep access to the library’s ballot drop box open. Use designated crosswalks when crossing Colfax. DAVA’s parking lot will serve as our procession gathering area at 4 p.m.
Bring your creativity, your family, and the memory of someone you love. Together, we’ll make space for grief, joy, tradition, and belonging.
