Art of The Revolution
Art, words and participatory projects to create change.
Through printmaking and other forms of art, DAVA students ages 3 to 18 raise awareness about current local and global issues. Give your opinion and learn how to make a difference through participatory projects organized by DAVA high school students in collaboration with Aurora Civic House Parties, a project of Warm Cookies of the Revolution.
Opening Reception: Saturday July 18th, from 4 to 8 pm in conjunction with Denim for Change, a fundraiser for DAVA, and Aurora Fashion Week. The opening in the gallery is free and open to the public. Tickets for Denim for Change happening at the same time are available HERE.
Location: 1405 Florence Street, Aurora CO 80010 in the Aurora Cultural Arts District.
For this exhibition, DAVA students of all ages are voicing their opinion about current issues using printmaking on ceramic and on fabric, or creating individual and participatory art projects.
Our youngest artists are creating ribbons and community medals to award for a project titled “Be the Change you want to see in the World.” Students ages 6 to 14 are creating posters using watercolors with letter stamps and stenciled letters. A group of middle schoolers are carving rubber blocks to print on ceramic tiles using underglazes. Curated student videos and a fashion project highlight student voice in this community through the years.
High school students are creating paintings, prints, sculpture, ceramics and wearable art focusing on environmental, social and global issues they care about. After learning relief engraving techniques with guest artist Johanna Mueller, students are creating relief printmaking blocks for print scrolls and fabric patches. Students speak up about war and gun violence, gender inequalities and abortion rights, healthcare, inflation, climate change and environmental issues. Combining words and images, they will give visitors topics to discuss around tea and cookies. As part of this exhibition opening, our students are working with Aurora Civic House Parties, a project of Warm Cookies of the Revolution to host a tea and cookies party at the opening featuring locally baked cookies and tea served in hand made teacups with revolutionary messages.
Aurora Civic House Parties (ACHP), a project of Warm Cookies of the Revolution will help facilitate a party co-hosted by DAVA high school students. Warm Cookies of the Revolution is a Colorado-based nonprofit dedicated to making civic participation more accessible, creative, and fun. By creating welcoming spaces for connection and dialogue, ACHP reflects a shared belief in the power of creativity, community, and civic imagination. “We are grateful to collaborate with DAVA in celebrating young artists and exploring how art can spark conversation, inspire action, and strengthen our community.” Lauren Dorn, ACHP
Throughout 2026, DAVA chose printmaking as a medium to speak out about current issues and to get involved in social and environmental activism though artmaking. The exhibition is free and open to the public Monday to Friday 10 am to 5 pm and by appointment until November 1st.
